Unalaska History: The history of this city (part of Alaska's beautiful Aleutian islands) starts with Unangan hunters who roamed the land long before Russian fur traders settled into the area. The late 1890 and into the turn of the century many local residents ventured into fox farming. In mid 1941 Unalaska petitioned to become a first-class city. King crab fishing was a major industry in Unalaska from the 1950 up until the early 1980's. Today the commercial fishing industry, the processing of salmon and the transportation of cargo and seafood products are the main sources of jobs in this area.

Weather: Summers in this Aleutian island city are mild with temperatures averaging in the mid fifties to low sixties. Winters are a bit chillier with average temperatures ranging from high twenties to high thirties most days.
