Palmer’s Motto: “Alaska at its best”

City History: Palmer, Alaska began its life as a town back in 1914 with the settlement of farming land near the Alaska railroad (located in the Matanuska Valley). Years later, in 1935, the U.S. Government held land auctions and sold many plots to colonists. After their arrival, Palmer grew into a bustling small city. Agriculture was the only industry in the early days and still is an important factor in the economy of Palmer today.

Weather: You can enjoy warm and sunshine filled days in the summer, with average temps of approximately 65 degrees. Winters are mild, by Alaska standards, with an average temp of 25-30 degrees.
