Dillingham History: Prior to Russian fur traders settling the area by building a fur trading post, Yupik and Athabaskan indians called the land their own. Early in the 1880's the first of several cannery's was built here. Until 1904 Dillingham was known as Nushagak, after the river it is located by. Now the hub of Bristol Bay, Dillingham exists primarily from the fishing industry and tourism.

Weather: Dillingham summers are rather cool, ranging from upper 40's to low 50's on average. Winters don't fair much better with the average temps ranging between 5 and 15 degrees.
