Adak History: Adak is a small island in the area of Alaska known as the Aleutian Chain. Its land has been roamed by native Alaskan indians and Russian fur traders. Adak was sparsely populated until World War II when the U.S. used its to successfully combat Japan (who at that time was attacking from the islands of Kiska and Attu). In the peak of its population, residents numbered over 6,000. Military families and life ruled Adak until the facilities were closed in the late 1990's. The U.S. government now leases the land to the Alaska Natives. Adak now is home to a small community of less than a hundred residents.

Weather: For the few residents of this Alaskan city summers can be rather mild. Temperatures average high 40's to low 50's during summer months. In winter you can expect much chillier temp's near the low 30's.
