Bethel's History: Bethel was first established
as a village by Yupik Eskimos. In 1905 the first post office was
built in Bethel starting this small village on its way to flourishing
into a central hub for the 56 surrounding villages of the Y-K
Delta (Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta) . Bethel provided the ideal place
for the trading of local arts, furs and fish.
Weather: Bethel has an average yearly snowfall
of 50 inches. Winter temperatures average the low teens while
summer temp's average in the high 50's to low 60's.

Over 6000 people live in Bethel, Alaska.

The famous Kuskokwim 300 sled dog race is
held here each year.

Bethel is located within the Yukon Delta
